Leveraging Intelligent Informatics and Smart Data for Improved Understanding of Northern Forest Ecosystem Resilience (INSPIRES)
INSPIRES is an NSF-funded EPSCoR Track 2 grant involving a three-state partnership between Maine, Vermont, and New Hampshire focused on researching the Northern Forest Region. One of four primary themes within this larger project focuses on supporting students' quantitative reasoning skills in the context of forestry. The research team partnered with middle and high school teachers to develop lessons for the classroom focused on forestry and Quantitative Reasoning in Context (QRC).
During this project, members of the team have learned about QRC and forest research to support the development of lessons. These lessons have been piloted in partnering teachers’ classrooms and are available through this site.
This site also includes some publicly available datasets that have been reformatted to enable them to be more easily used in secondary classrooms.
