As a Senior in the Honors College I have taken the core Honors Civilizations Sequence, Honors 111, Honors 112, Honors 211, and Honors 212 in addition to the supplemental Honors Courses: Currents and Contexts [Honors 170] & A Cultural Odyssey [Honors 180].
The following writing samples showcase my work within the Honors College which has shaped my ideas for my Senior Thesis which will focus on the social impacts of early religious literature on women. The following essays track the social impacts of various authors (religious or agnostic/atheist) on social perspectives and positions. From the works of Sappho, to the Torah and Gnostic Gospels, the Communist Manifesto, and various female authors such as Emily Dickinson, Adreinne Rich, and Rachel Carson; My work within the Honors College has helped me grow as a writer and as a person.
This essay for Honors 111 explores my first Sappho experience and launched me into a study of the female characters and authors that I would come to know and love in the Honors curriculum.
During Honors 112, I was excited to see more strong female characters but I became disgusted with how they were treated by the 'heros' in the Honors texts. This essay explores the theme of violence that is used against women in the Honors texts.
This essay written for Honors 211 showcases my experience branching out into the fields of Sociology and WGS as I continued my work in the Honors college. Political theory never seemed more interesting!
This essay for Honors 212 represents the culmination of my studies within the Honors college surrounding the topics of femininity and female representation within the Honors texts: From Sappho to Rachel Carson. Women in Honors deserve more!
