Hello! (Emma Grous 02/2022)
I am a 4th year English major at the University of Maine with a concentration in Professional and Technical Writing. My minors include Sociology, Legal Studies, and Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies. While I grew up in Connecticut, I've made Maine my home and hope to continue my education at Maine Law in Portland after graduation!
When I'm not working at the Writing Center you can find me most often in Fogler Library working on my thesis or at the nearest Dunkin Donuts getting an iced coffee with my favorite pup! In addition to being a Writing Center Consultant, I am a Lead Resident Assistant for the B.C.E.P. complex and a Teaching Assistant for the course Honors 180 - A Cultural Odyssey taught by Dr. Margaret Killinger.
As a Writing Center Consultant it is my goal to encourage students to engage with the writing they produce on a personal level and to foster an understanding of academic writing that will allow students to make their writing both personal and excellent. I hope to see you in the Writing Center this semester!

Below you can find a selection of what I view as the most important works I've done thus far in my academic career!
Femininity within the Honors Core Curriculum
This is an analytical essay that represents the culmination of my studies within the Honors college surrounding the topic of femininity and female representation within the Honors texts.
Stalking and Escalating Violence
This infographic was created as a part of my final project for Sociology 324 [Domestic Violence]. This infographic addresses the issue of stalking within the United States and as such, may be triggering for some students who have experienced stalking or sexually based crimes.
Sexual Violence in Maine
This website covers the topic of sexual violence in Maine and on the University of Maine campus. This project is an expansion of an earlier project that only addressed the topic of stalking at the University of Maine. Some information and statistics may be triggering for students and members of the community who have been impacted by sexual violence, however, this project includes intentional design features such as trigger warnings, drop down text boxes, and original graphics.
Sexually Based Crime in Maine: Understanding Violent Crime Rates and the Social Impact of Crime in Maine
This White Paper was written for English 317 [Business and Technical Writing]. The work you will see presented here is representative of nearly three months of work across disciplines to compose a professional analytical essay that addresses violent crime rates and their effects on the Maine population, in particular, women and children.
