Why Read?
To enhance our Chinese and English language proficiency for study, work and leisure
To develop our ability to understand, enjoy and appreciate creative works in Chinese and English
To engage in culturally diverse situations effectively

When To Read?
Day 1 to 6 Form Teacher Period (except the day of National Flag-raising ceremony)
English ‘DEAR’ : Sep , Nov, Jan, Mar, May
Chinese ‘DEAR’ : Oct, Dec, Feb, Apr, Jun
What To Read?
Students are strongly advised to spend 10 minutes or more every day reading a wide range of materials.
Students can choose any Chinese and English books from the School Library, Class Library and the Public Libraries according to your level and interests.
F.1 and F.2 students can use their iPad to read ebooks on HKedCity.
What To Do After Reading?
After finishing a book, students should record its details in their online Reading Passport on eClass. Comment on the book and note down the number of words in bracket.
Word limits
Chinese books - at leat 100 words
English books - at least 80 words

DEAR Award System
It is a cumulative and ongoing award system which aims to promote reading both in school and at home. Students should record all the completed book titles in the eClass Reading Passport, which will be kept throughout their secondary school years. Awards will be given to students who meet the reading targets as shown in the table.
Award winners will be presented certificates and a remark will be made on their report cards. Also, for F.4 to F.6 students, a remark will be put down on all award winners’ Student Learning Profile (SLP) stating the kind of award they have won.
