By the end of this lesson, participants will:
Define orthopathy as rightly ordered affections that flow from a relationship with God.
Understand that biblical discipleship transforms not only what believers know, but also what they love.
Recognize the indispensable role of the Holy Ghost in producing Christlike desires.
Evaluate the affections that currently shape their lives.
Begin cultivating spiritual habits that foster deeper love for God.
Discuss or journal the following:
Why does Jesus begin with loving God rather than simply obeying Him?
What competes for your affection most often?
How does the Holy Ghost change a believer's desires?
Can a person obey outwardly while remaining spiritually unhealthy? Explain.
"We are what we desire or, to be even more specific, we are (and we worship) what we love."
