By the end of this lesson, participants will:
Define orthodoxy from a biblical perspective.
Understand why sound doctrine is essential to discipleship.
Recognize the relationship between truth and spiritual maturity.
Appreciate that the Holy Ghost illuminates and applies God's truth.
Identify practical steps toward developing a biblical worldview.
Discuss or journal:
Why is sound doctrine essential for healthy discipleship?
What beliefs have most shaped your relationship with Christ?
How does the Holy Ghost help believers understand Scripture?
Can someone know biblical facts without becoming spiritually mature? Why?
What areas of your beliefs need deeper biblical study?
Gaps in our understanding have led to misinformation and misconceptions that have misshaped our theology and our discipleship in significant ways. We have lost biblical treasures and suffered long-term consequences. That’s the bad news. The good news is that it’s not a permanent condition. If we are willing to educate ourselves and allow our misconceptions to be corrected, it will “shift the world” as we know it, and move our churches forward in groundbreaking ways.
