For my first student teaching placement I taught K-6th grade art at Abraham Lincoln School No. 22 in the fall of 2023. Our projects included community collages, found object cakes, and exquisite corpses.
Kindergarten and 1st grade created Community Collages. We focused on the Big Idea of Community. Students were given the task to create a self portrait drawing with a collages community that they belong to in the background. Students learned about basic face proportions, collage techniques, and the importance of belonging in a community.
