Ms. Esther’s Camp Day 2 Healthy Eating Lesson Plan
Esther
On Camp Day 2, we had Eliana (Gr.8 Teaching Assistant Volunteer Student) present her power point presentation on Food Groups and Nutrition. Eliana had worked very hard to create and practice the presentation with Ms. Esther before camp. Ms. Esther believes in training her volunteers and developing their oral presentation and leadership skills.
Annie created play-dough BBQ Kebabs and Subway Sandwiches to demonstrate healthy eating habits as well as American Food Culture. She documented the play-dough creation process by photos and shared her instructions and play-dough food creation experience with camp students through way of power point presentation. Annie and Eliana also helped Ms. Esther design and carry out many games and activities.

Getting to know our Volunteer:
Introducing Our Teaching Assistant Eliana
Eliana sharing about her life in the United States
My name is Eliana. In 2018, I went to the United States, where I studied for a year and had an unforgettable experience. Many people visit America and make unforgettable memories, but my American experience is rather different. I was living in an apartment with my family at the time. One evening, I heard a few gunshots coming from the window at home. Later, I learned through the news that there was a shooting near our house. I was very scared. When I went to bed at night, I hid in the quilt. Helicopter and gunshots. My dad needed to go out for work in the middle of the night, and I barely slept all night. I was afraid that something would happen to my dad when he went out. Fortunately, the murderer was caught, and my father returned safely. The murderer was a high school student who killed his dad because he wouldn't give him money. In America, many people legally keep guns in their homes for the reason of collection, self-defense, or offensive purposes; however, many innocent lives were lost as a result and pose a serious security problem in American society today.
