4th Grade Team Comics Detailed Instructional Plan:

Big Idea(s): Resilience and Compassion

Students will work in teams of 4-5 to create a comic collaboratively to eventually host a comic convention at their school to share with the younger grades. Each student will complete a specific job: story writer, character artist, background artist, and layout manager to complete a 9-12 panel one page comic as a team. This comic will feature one hero who solves a problem at GRCDC while teaching resilience, kindness, and democratic values.

Kindergarten Kind vs. Unkind worlds Lesson Plan

Big Idea(s): Empathy and Understanding

Students will learn how to paint landscapes and use art techniques to show space. At the same time, they will think about what it feels like to live in a world with kindness and without it. Students will talk about empathy, kindness, and how we can work together while still being ourselves. In groups, they will create a mural that shows both a kind and an unkind world, using symbols and images that are important to them and their classmates.
