Self Reflection: Self reflection as an educator is essential to improvement and sustained, applied effort. I will keep a daily journal in which I will answer the same reflection questions each day. This will establish routine and allow me to close my work day with a constructive exercise and mindfulness. Not only will I be able to reflect on the day in the moment, but I will be able to reference past journal entries if ever necessary, so I am growing my knowledge base.
Student Feedback: I believe that students’ opinions of their teachers, both in terms of how much they care and the quality of education they provide, truly matters. At the end of each project, I will have students complete an artist statement in reflection of their piece and then give me a grade on how I did supporting them and teaching the art making skill/content. This will not only allow me to get insight on what students need from me but also let students know that I value their thoughts and care about doing right by them.
Parents/Guardians:
As previously mentioned, I implement a partnership with parents/guardians in my classroom. I encourage parents/guardians to reach out to me with any comments or concerns. To receive constructive feedback, I send this email to all parents/guardians of the students in my classroom. The parents/guardians of my students need to know their individual voices are heard in my classroom just as much as their students do for our learning community to feel safe and impactful.
Mentor Teacher/ Teaching Community:
Though teaching is very fulfilling, it can be a hard job at times. Having a community of educators to help keep me on the right track has been a priceless resource. To ask for specific feedback I will send this email to my mentor teacher and colleagues. Their feedback will keep me continuously growing as an educator and person.
