In 2015, the development of the Child Welfare Core Practice Model (CPM), County Directors had the privilege of attending Directors’ Institutes several times a year. These gatherings allowed them to learn, collaborate on CPM, and develop tools for implementation and network. These events were well-received by the Directors and Central California Training Academy (CCTA) and the central regional Directors recognized that the breadth of information did not reach the rest of the leadership teams. In 2017, CCTA brought forward the ideas to provide venue for Mid Management to have a forum to increase their skills, knowledge, and networking opportunities. CCTA realized there was a need to support managers differently and wanted to model the manager experience to the Directors institute experiences. The goals were to honor, celebrate, and provide a place of Networking, Reflective Supervision opportunities, and increases restorative practices.
November 2018, the first CCTA Manager Summit in Avila Beach CA was hosted at the Avila Lighthouse Suites. CPM was introducing to Child welfare Managers as an overarching framework with the focus to honor the manager leadership role. The inaugural summit was well attended and the Managers and Directors request that this be an opportunity to continue for Manger development.
In June 2019, Listening, Learning and Leading Together! and December of 2019, Building Organizational Readiness for CPM Together: Knowing Where We Stand; was a continuation of the growth in knowledge of CPM and to understand keys to implementation and organizational readiness.
COVID-19 hit us in 2020, forcing us to put our manager summits on hiatus. However, the need for community, collaboration, and restoration for our leaders did not change.
In November 2023 the Managers Summit was reborn, we picked up where we left off with the ongoing learning of the crosswalk of CPM and ICPM and Implementation Science, with a deeper understanding of the need to integrate this knowledge into the work of Child welfare with a focus on preventive practices.
Spring 2024 was our first collaboration with the shared space of our Adult Services Training Academy the managers in the 24-county region that ASTA covers were welcomed and included. The focus of the Spring 2024 summit was: The Managers Role in the Climatic Change of a Multigenerational Workforce- How to Retain. In this shared venture the CCTA Managers Summit has been renamed as the SWERT Leadership Summit as the inclusivity of Child welfare the Fall 2024 Summit where we are at 60% child welfare and 40% Adult Services participation focusing on Fiscal Mastery for Managers: Navigating Budgets, Avoiding Pitfalls, and Implementing Initiatives.
