complement a symposium
15 minutes long talks or poster
SICB symposia are typically accompanied by complementary oral and poster sessions.
When submitting an abstract through SICB's online portal, presenters can opt for the designation "complementary to symposium [title of symposium]".
The symposium organizers may accept any abstracts submitted as complementary to their symposium. Abstracts not accepted as complementary will become part of the general sessions.
Once the abstract deadline has passed, the SICB program officer will share abstracts that self-designated as 'complementary' with the relevant symposium organizers.
The same formatting rules apply for complementary and general sessions, such as talk slots are 15 minutes long.
Symposium organizers are encouraged to invite presenters from their complementary sessions to submit manuscripts as part of their ICB symposium issue. This invitations applies to complementary talks and posters. Such invitations help ensure that each symposium comprises a good number of articles. So please invite complementary presenters early to give them enough lead time to develop a manuscript.
Symposium organizers are encouraged to invite presenters from their complementary sessions as reserve symposium speakers in case invited speakers drop out. Expect that a few speakers drop out up to the very last moment.
