Jay Newquist writing about Mark Astone, the graduating Student Body President. Recounting the removal of funds from the GLSA because of their "immoral" life habits, the article describes him as a "real frat guy", a "sexist", and "elitist". Astone wrote a letter to the legislative vice president to explain his veto in lieu of his presence at that particular meeting. The letter was quoted in the Fresno Bee: "I and society as a whole have not yet accepted this type of behavior as worthy of such public recognition as the access to public funds, and I cannot allow access to funds to this group until society deems it proper" (Krause, 1988, "Funding for Homosexual Group at FSU Vetoed").
