In order to be eligible for BAMM, you must also be admitted to the MA or MS program in Mathematics, Statistics or Data Science at Cal Poly Pomona, Fresno State, or San Francisco State University. More information about these programs and the application deadlines can be found on their websites (linked above).
Application Requirements
List of requirements: Two applications (see below), unofficial college transcripts, a personal statement, recommendation letters from faculty in the mathematical sciences, and a bachelor's degree conferred by August 2023. In addition, you must be eligible to receive financial aid (thus, you must complete the FAFSA) and be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States.
Application Process
Two applications: For the master's programs at BAMM! Sites and for the BAMM! program itself:
Applicants must apply to their choice of one or more of the masters' programs in the mathematical sciences at the BAMM! Sites (Cal Poly Pomona, Fresno State, or San Francisco State) through Cal State Apply . The deadline is for Cal Poly Pomona on April 1st, 2023. The deadlines for San Francisco State and Fresno State are a rolling - but it is good to submit early.
Complete an online application to the BAMM! program by Saturday, April 15th, 2023.
Materials from the applicant: For the BAMM! program application, the following materials should be sent via email to the BAMM! Program Director (Kimberly Seashore, kimseash@sfsu.edu):
Your unofficial college transcripts, including those from your bachelor's-granting institution.
A personal statement addressing your desire to pursue a Ph.D. in the mathematical sciences, including Pure Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, and Mathematics Education, after completing a Master's in Mathematics at one of the BAMM! Sites. In addition, this personal statement should describe any community service and/or extracurricular activities you have been a part of. You may add other things that are important to you as well.
Two recommendation letters from faculty in the mathematical sciences: These should be signed on letterhead and sent via emails from the letter writers directly to the 2022-23 BAMM! Program Director (Kimberly Seashore, kimseash@sfsu.edu).
A bachelor's degree conferred by August 2023.
What is the process after you have applied to BAMM?
After we review the applications, we will select students for interviews. You will be contacted by us to schedule one if you were selected.
Following the interviews, there will be a second round of reviews we will notify students to whom BAMM! scholarships will be offered.
You must be accepted to the graduate program at your site in order to recieve a BAMM! scholarship.
