SPRING 2023 ACTIVITIES

In Spring 2023, BAMM! meetings will be held on Fridays from 1:00pm to 2:00pm. The will be big meetings (all three campuses) will happen via ZOOM and small meetings will happen in person on each campus.

Friday, January 20st: Small meeting.  (Fresno & CPP only) Check in on course plan and enrollment, catch up after break, loosely cover benchmarks.

Friday, January 27th: Big meeting.  Spring Launch.  Math Microaggressions - what are they and how can we change the math culture? 

Friday, February 3th: Small meetings.  Check-in on spring research and benchmarks. 

Friday, February 10th: Big meeting.  Summer Planning discussion & Ph.D. program exploration launch. (Open to CalBridge). 

Friday, February 17th: Small meetings. Problem/Proof Workshopping (PPW).

Friday, February 24th: Big meeting.  BAMMily Reunion!  Stories from the BAMMies in the field.

Friday, September 16th:  Small meetings.  Problem/Proof Workshopping (PPW)

Friday, September 23th: Big meeting.  Fall benchmarks by cohort.  Meeting your cohort across campuses.

Friday, September 30th: Small meetings. Advising check-ins.

Friday, October 7th: Big meeting.  Statement of purpose workshop (Y2);  Reaching out to faculty  (Y1) 

Friday, October 14th: Small meetings.Problem/Proof Workshopping (PPW)

Friday, October 21st: Big meeting. BAMM! PhD Program Panel with awesome faculty from PhD programs in California on applying to grad school:  Dr. Nathan Kaplan (UC Irvine), Dr. Roummel Marcia (UC Merced), Dr. Daniel Reinholz (San Diego State), Ben Hanson (University of Michigan).

Friday, October 28th:  Small meeting. SACNAS (10/27-10/29, Puerto Rico): Small meetings/advising check ins/statement workshoping. 

Friday. November 4th: Field of Dreams.  ZOOM  meeting for those not attending. 

Friday, November 11th: Veterans Day.

Friday, November 18th:  Big meeting.  Distinguished Speaker: Dr. Ranthony Edmonds

Friday, November 25th: Thanksgiving. No meeting!

Friday, December 2nd: Benchmark check-ins or PPW

Friday, December 9th: Reflection and looking forward.  Share successes of this semester and goals for next semester. 

Friday, December 16th:  Exam Week - no meetings.

In Spring 2022, BAMM! meetings will be held via Zoom on Fridays from 2:00pm to 3:00pm. There will be big meetings (all three campuses) and small meetings (each individual campus by itself).


Friday January 21st: Small meeting. Check in on course plan and enrollment, catch up after break, loosely cover benchmarks.

Friday January 28th: Big meeting. Catch up across campuses, cover benchmarks for the semester, create a committee for designing stoles (maybe).

Friday February 4th: Big meeting. BAMM! CSU Faculty Panel featuring Dr. Andrea Arauza-Rivera (CSU East Bay), Dr. Crissy Runnalls (Cal Poly Pomona), Dr. Kristin Kurianski (CSU Fullerton),  and Dr. Selenne Banuelos (IPAM and CSU Channel Islands).

Friday February 11th: Small meeting.

Friday February 18th: Big meeting. Also, the 2022 BAMM! Open House from 4:00pm to 5:00pm.

Friday February 25th: Small meeting.


Friday April 8th: Big meeting. BAMM! Graduate Student Panel featuring


Thursday 4/28/22 to Saturday 4/30/22: BAMMFest at Fresno State. On Friday 4/29/22, there will be multiple sessions of talks to be given by BAMM! scholars and affiliates on research they have done in the mathematical sciences as well as a keynote address by Dr. Ranthony Edmonds from Ohio State University.


FALL 2021 ACTIVITIES

Friday August 20th: Big meeting. Get to know each other across campus, benchmarks for Fall 2021, money for travel and grad school application fees, event the following week.

Friday August 27th: Small meeting. Just 25-30 minutes. We'll all join the Community Learning Event: Anti-Racism in STEM Teaching at SFSU at 1:30. (Have you registered?)

Friday September 3rd: Big meeting. Living Proof activity, naming the cohorts, who's going to SACNAS?

Friday September 10th: Small meeting. Living Proof results and discussion.

Friday September 17th: Big meeting. Panel with current wonderful PhD students on applying to and being in grad school: Quiyana Murphy, Monica Mendoza, Sofia Martinez, Valeri Jean Pierre.

Friday September 24th: Small meeting. Catch up, check on progress with benchmarks.

Friday October 1st: Big meeting. Multiple breakouts, between cohorts, future plans and expectations.

Friday October 8th: Small meeting. Discussions by campus, but reminder of statement of purpose expectations. Other topics:  Spring 2022 courses, sharing email drafts for sending out to faculty, etc. 

Friday October 15th: Big meeting. BAMM! PhD Program Panel with awesome faculty from PhD programs in California on applying to grad school:  Dr. Nathan Kaplan (UC Irvine), Dr. David Weisbart (UC Riverside), Dr. Roummel Marcia (UC Merced), Dr. Daniel Reinholz (San Diego State).

Friday October 22nd: Small meeting. Check in about benchmarks with both cohorts, course plans for Spring 2022. Varies by campus.

Friday October 29th: Big meeting. SACNAS. Field of Dreams prep and expectations. Kim's nine colour cube problem. 

Friday November 5th: Field of Dreams. No meeting!

Friday November 12th: Big meeting. Discuss Testimonios and experiences at Field of Dreams, SACNAS, and other conferences.

Friday November 19th:  Big meeting. Blackwell-Tapia Conference. Special Guest Dr. Amanda Ruiz (University of San Diego).

Friday November 26th: Thanksgiving. No meeting!
