What do counselors do?

    • CLASSROOM LESSONS

All classes at Kedron will see one of the counselors once a month for a classroom lesson based on the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) Mindsets & Behaviors. Topics will be either social/emotional, academic success, or career awareness. (conflict resolution, listening skills, GA’s 17 career clusters, etc.)

    • SMALL GROUPS

School counselors will see some students in small groups for limited amounts of time (usually once a week for 6-8 weeks) to develop skills and provide support. Topics vary from year to year and are based on need as expressed by data, school staff, parents, and/or students. Parent/guardian permission will be obtained.

    • SHORT-TERM INDIVIDUAL COUNSELING

School counselors meet with individual students who might need a little extra support, help with solving a problem, or need to express feelings/concerns. These sessions are brief, and students can be referred by school staff, parents, or themselves. If more time or intensity is needed, the school counselors can provide a list of local therapists, psychologists, or psychiatrists who might be able to better serve your child’s needs. School counselors are not licensed to provide long-term therapy.
