Audience experience of parasocial relationships in the culture of lifestyle fitness is a social process that is constructed. The followers are not just consumers; they are engaged in establishing the authenticity, maintaining emotional intimacy, and community meaning. The results indicate that authenticity is delicate and in a state of negotiation. The influencers can be vulnerable, display expertise, or relatability, but it is up to the audiences to decide whether they find these performances credible. The results also revealed that an enhanced involvement in parasocial relationships is facilitated by recurring patterns of interaction: shared language, ongoing storylines, accountability rituals, and emotional reciprocity. The most significant of all is that the influencer culture is based on the tension between intimacy and visibility that persists at all times. What might seem personal is usually strategic, collective, and interpreted. Understanding these dynamics helps explain why lifestyle fitness influencers hold strong emotional influence in digital culture and why their content can shape motivation, trust, identity, and belonging.
Future research could focus on the attitudes of followers who have built strong parasocial relationships with lifestyle fitness influencers, especially those who report feeling motivated, emotionally supported, or part of the community by the influencers' content. It may give a more accurate picture of how lifestyle fitness influencers can tailor their work and engagement models to the audiences, whose emotional involvement in their work is the highest.
