DR. CHRISTIANE ALSOP
Christiane K. Alsop, Ph.D. is a writer and adjunct professor in the Professional Studies Program at the Van Loan School at Endicott College. She has taught college-age students and adult learners at colleges and universities in Germany and in the U.S.. She has a master’s degree in Social Psychology from the University of Hamburg and a Ph.D. in Cultural Psychology from the Free University of Berlin.
Her research and writing focuses on the meaning of objects, living away from home, and the lingering effects of Nazism on post-war generations of Germans. Her personal essay, Presumed Guilty, was judged Notable Essay in Best American Essays of 2006.
For her, teaching’s purpose is to empower students to captain their own ships; to seek new waters; and to weather storms when they arise. Her students’ logbook entries, in turn, inspire Professor Alsop as she charts her own voyages.
