Sponsored Content Awareness
Sponsored Content Awareness
What to look for when encountering Instagram content that may be sponsored.
#1: a disclosure statement
To maintain transparency and earn the trust of their followers, influencers will disclose their brand deals with a simple statement.
These statements can take many different forms; hashtags, business partner tags, ambassador tags, etc.
#2: over exaggeration of a feeling/opinion towards a product or brand
Influencers will often exaggerate their emotions towards a product in order to persuade their audience to purchase from this brand.
Although the post does not directly state that this is an ad, this type of language is a sign of sponsored content.
#3: An abundance of tagged accounts on a photo
Influencers will tag accounts that have gifted them products.
Influencers that tag the same account on several of their posts is a sign of a brand ambassador and is continually being sent products from a given brand.
Elements such as these are a good indication of an Instagram influencer participating in sponsored content and receiving compensation for posting such content. Next time you encounter a post you think may be sponsored, look for these signs!
