Sense of Place - What is SOP?

The Spring 2025 Sense of Place Symposium will be held on TBA, on the Chico State campus from TBA.

SOP is a biannual event that provides a place for first-year students to belong and present their semester-long research projects. The event is designed to foster student participation in mutual engagement with the campus and community. Throughout the semester, students will create presentations on an issue of concern connected to the Chico State campus and/or community. They will then engage in dialogue with an audience of peers and community members on the topic of concern. Students will use this dialogue to identify ways they could further their connections with the Chico State community.

Sense of Place will help students:

Connect their classroom learning to the greater community.
Foster a sense of belonging.
Find resources offered on campus and in the community.
Encourage student involvement with the campus and community beyond the SOP event.

“The purpose of Sense of Place is for students to collaborate and recognize that there is a place on campus for everyone. No matter who you are there is space on campus where you will feel a sense of place.” Fall 2024
