COURSE OVERVIEW:
This course is the next course in the Community Health Worker certificate program after HLTH 201: CHW Principles & Practice 1. In HLTH 202, students will continue to develop core CHW competencies such as cultural humility and client-centered health education, counseling and care management services. They will continue to enhance professional skills essential for success in the field, and will study concepts and skills for providing group and community-centered assessment, education, support and advocacy services.
ADDING AND DROPPING: Please note that it is your responsibility to enroll at CCSF and to add or drop classes either online or in-person at designated registration offices. If you do not attend the first day of class or contact me, it is assumed that you are not enrolled in the course.
ABSENCE POLICY: Given the importance of applied learning for this course, you can miss no more than 3 in-person classes due to unexcused absences. If you miss more than 3 in-person classes you may be dropped from the course and/or receive a grade of “F.” Similar to other professional training programs, the CHW program classes require students to be present in order to be certified or licensed.
HLTH 202 is a five (5) unit hybrid course with weekly in-person class on Mondays, and Zoom class on Wednesdays. This is a rigurous course that requires you to dedicate significant time every week in class and out of class on course assignments.

HLTH 202 is a required course for the Community Health Worker (CHW) certificate program.
The CHW Program trains students to work in the fields of public health, health care and social services. CHWs provide a wide range of services, including health outreach and education, client-centered counseling and case management, and client and community-based advocacy. They work to reduce unequal rates of illness and death between different communities and to promote health equity or justice, prioritizing communities with the greatest health risks.
