Course overview

American Government is an introduction to the institutions, operations, policies, and problems of American government today. In this course, we will examine issues such as the United States’ Constitutional development, the impact of the President, the Congress, the bureaucracy, and the courts on daily life, civil rights and liberties, the press and the mass media, political parties and interest groups, voting and elections, the domestic and foreign policies of the federal government and the problems of state and local government.  Throughout the course, we will examine the theories, values, and behavior underlying the American political system.

Course Format

In Spring 2024 semester, I will be offering this course in the fully online and hybrid format. These classes are 16 weeks long and start on Monday, January 29th.

We will use an Open Education Resource (OER) for American Government. This is a zero cost online textbook that you will access through our Canvas course page!
