About Me

Megan Sweeney

My name is Megan Sweeney and I am a full time faculty member at City College of San Francisco. I have been teaching political science in community colleges since 2009. The courses that I teach include American Government, Comparative Government, International Relations and Introduction to Public Policy. I have a MA in Political Science from SFSU with an emphasis in Comparative and American Politics and a BA in Political Science from Seattle University. My research interests include democratization, social movements, and public policy. In all of my classes, I emphasize the relevancy that politics plays in students’ lives, encourage civic engagement and utilize a student focused pedagogy in the classroom that includes a variety of active learning techniques .

At CCSF, I serve on the Distance Education (DEA) sub-committee of the Curriculum Committee, the Pathways Committee and the Online Learning and Education Technology (OLET) team. I have received training by the American College and University Educators (ACUE), earning the Certificate in Effective Teaching Practices in 2018. Additionally, my American Government online course has received certification from the OEI Course Design Academy, meeting the statewide best practices standards for online course design. I am a member of the American Political Science Association.

When not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my family, swimming, running in Golden Gate park, and trying out new recipes.
