My name is Megan Sweeney and I am a full time faculty member at City College of San Francisco. I have been teaching political science in community colleges since 2009. The courses that I teach include American Government, Comparative Government, International Relations, Political Theory, and Introduction to Public Policy. I have a MA in Political Science from SFSU with an emphasis in Comparative and American Politics and a BA in Political Science from Seattle University. My research interests include democratization, social movements, and public policy. In all of my classes, I emphasize the relevancy that politics plays in students’ lives, encourage civic engagement and utilize a student focused pedagogy in the classroom that includes a variety of active learning techniques.
At CCSF, I am a member of the executive board of AFT2121, serve as the Distance Education Teaching and Learning Specialist in the Online Learning and Education Technology (OLET) department, co-chair the Peer Online Course Review (POCR) committee, and am a member of the Distance Education (DEA) sub-committee of the Curriculum Committee.
I have received training by the American College and University Educators (ACUE), earning the Certificate in Effective Teaching Practices in 2018. In 2023, I received a micro-credential from ACUE in 'Inspiring Inquiry and Lifelong Learning in Your Online Course.'
My American Government online course has received certification from the OEI Course Design Academy, meeting the statewide best practices standards for online course design and my Comparative Government online course has received local POCR certification.
Outside of my work at CCSF, I enjoy spending time with my family, traveling, running, swimming with a master's team, and cooking.
