Mus 6C Beginning Intermediate Classical Guitar

Music performed in this class begins to use higher positions of on the neck. Students will start to complain when bar chords, the bane of all guitarists, are introduced.


STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES

Upon completion of this course a student will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate an intermediate-level knowledge of music theory as applied to the guitar.
  2. Select intermediate repertoire for practice and performance.
  3. Formulate guitar arrangements based on principles of voice-leading.
  4. Prepare and practice pieces for the guitar.
  5. Interpret and play notes in multi-voiced textures on the guitar.
  6. Judge the performance of an intermediate work for guitar according to standard aesthetic and technical criteria.

IMPORTANT DATES

  • Monday, August 19: First day of class.
  • Monday, October 14: Mid-Term Exam in class
  • Monday, December 16: Final Exam in class

  • 8/30, F last day to drop with a 100% refund
  • 9/6, F last day to add
  • 9/11, W last day to drop w/o W
  • 9/11, W last day for international & non-resident students to drop w/50% refund
  • 9/19, Th last day to file for Pass/No Pass grading option (P/NP)
  • 11/7, Th last day to drop with a W & to apply for a leave of absence

ATTENDANCE

You are allowed 2 unexcused absences. More affects your participation, which affects your grade. Remember, it is the student’s responsibility to drop a class, not the instructor's.

  • A guitar.

All music will be provided in class.

  • 3–ring binder for your music
  • Guitar foot stool
  • Music stand for class and home use
