Course Description

Cine 21 is an introductory course that addresses the formal analysis of cinema. The course covers filmmaking techniques such as cinematography, editing, mise-en-scène, sound, lighting, acting, and narrative.

Assignments 

Our course week runs from a Sunday to a Monday. Two times a week you will have assignments -  readings, discussions, links to watch a particular film and due dates. These are located on the Syllabus posted on Canvas (TBA). Due dates are also handily marked on the Canvas Calendar. You should expect to spend nine hours each week for this 16 week course of 52.5 hours.

Looking at Movies 7th Edition 2022 David Monahan and Richard Barsam.

Recommended is the affortablee-book rental which includes the access card and accessible digital textbook. Please register on the WWNorton site to access the ebook and interactive materials. It is affordable and you can begin the course at once. There are three demo chapters you can look at.

You can also locate and order ebooks and textbooks online via the CCSF Bookstore.There are also copies in the CCSF Library you can borrow for the entire term. Please contact me if you have any difficulties in getting the textbook and I will help you acquire it.

Required films

The films for the course are available as streaming resources that are accessible for each module on Canvas with your RAM ID and password.

Please note that films may include adult content (profanity, violence, illicit drug use and/or explicit sexual content). Please check with me regarding this if you have questions.
