Hello all,

Welcome to the Spring semester at CCSF!

Thank you for signing up for the online "Medical Resources and Libraries" class (CRN, 2 units), which starts on January 15, 2019 and runs through May 17, 2019. This class is completely online and has no required on-campus meetings. We will be using the learning management system (LMS) called Canvas.

I look forward to working with you all this semester as we make the Medical Resources meaningful and fun. Hope you are looking forward to a productive and valuable learning experience as we work together towards the goal of raising awareness of medical information resources. Topics include: health databases, consumer health, medical technology, games, special libraries, and other medical and health resources.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

• Employ mobile device techniques for bedside information searches Outcome
• Analyze primary information sources for a medical specialty Outcome
• Apply medical subject headings (MeSH) for effective catalog and database searching of medical topics Outcome
• Appraise role of National Library of Medicine in service and support of both consumers and medical practitioners

Your Responsibilities

You will also need to acquire a FREE San Francisco Public Library (SFPL) card. A SFPL card is available for all residents of California. You will need your SFPL Library Card for assignment 3 (week 3). If you do not live in the San Francisco area please fill out a Digital Card application the first week of class and send me the completed confirmation sheet as PDF or printable attachment and I will get a card out to you. Deadline for form submission is January 22, 2019.
