Hello, students. This is Ed Murray, and I'm the teacher of ESLV 4842, ESL for Work. It's a vocational noncredit ESL course from City College of San Francisco. It has all the information you need. Thanks!
My friend Mr. Squiggly announces a new online English class, ESL for Work—and it's free.
In this class you learn about important workplace topics: Health and Safety; Understanding your paycheck; Workers' comp rules; Benefits like sick leave pay; Writing reports and taking messages — and more!
You get a certified City College of San Francisco ESL class; 16 weeks of instruction, a full semester; online only courses. Study in the comfort of your own home; set your own school schedule. And you get experienced teaching.
You also get correct vocabulary for work; English grammar; speaking and listening skills; effective communications skills with supervisors and with your co-workers.
And you get individual attention. Your teacher personally corrects all assignments, offers positive and helpful suggestions for improvement, answers your questions by Canvas Inbox email, meets with you privately in Zoom meetings. Your teacher Ed is here for you!
Study in a friendly community. Work together with your classmates using Canvas technology. Participate in written and video discussions. Set up live video studio sessions with your classmates.

All about our ESL for Work class
ESL for Work is a Noncredit class, which means that it is free. Good news! Noncredit classes are also 'Open Entry' classes. This means you can join the class any time during the semester. You don't have to wait for a new semester to join. More good news!
This course is designed for students at an ESL 3 - 4 level. It's for students who have finished ESL 2 and up through ESL 4. This course fits into a number of beginning vocational certificate programs, including Beginning VESL Communications Certificate, Beginning VESL for Janitors Certificate, and Beginning VESL for Hospitality Industry Certificate programs.
Our course will help you participate in necessary and important conversations in the workplace. We'll study the vocabulary, grammar, and usage that you will need to understand and speak to your co-workers, supervisors, and customers at work.
I will help you as much as I can; just as importantly, you will help your classmates and receive help from them, too, in order to learn and practice your communication skills in English at work.
This class is online only—no regular live Zoom classes. You will turn in tasks to me in the Canvas Student Learning Platform. We will take the time to learn how to use Canvas and, in general, learn how to succeed in an online course.
The students will submit material through Assignments. Students will also make comments in Discussions and comment on classmates' posts. There will be Quizzes, also. We'll also use the Canvas Inbox to send each other messages. Some of your discussions and assignments will be written; others will be done with videos. I'll be with you to guide you through the class.
One important thing to remember: My job is to help you — so ask for help when you need it. Let's work hard in class this semester, and let's have fun learning English for the workplace.
