Who is Mr. Oyuela?
My philosophy of teaching is rooted in my immense respect for education. Schools and teachers are the foundation of the most powerful resource all children have access to. Teaching, to me, is an art—one that requires daily practice, reflection, and action. It involves balancing personal circumstances, personalities, and academic needs, and then somehow condensing these into a fifty-minute lesson packed with engaging activities, intellectual discourse, and rigorous curriculum. Suffice it to say, the role of a teacher is one of the most important for a functioning society.
As a special education teacher, I am tasked with finding ways to make challenging material accessible to all students. I come up with creative methods to deliver content or organize information in ways that are most conducive to their learning. My students require a range of accommodations, including small-group instruction and differentiated worksheets. They have demonstrated that, with proper care, they can succeed at the same levels as their peers who do not require accommodations. My job is to unlock the potential of all students based on their unique needs.
