About Gillian

Gillian Hagen is a New York City STEAM educator. Ms. Hagen teaches high school Physics at Fordham Leadership Academy, a Title I public school, in the Bronx.

Prior to becoming a teacher, Ms. Hagen researched quantum materials for use in battery and solar energy technology. As a teacher, she brings her experience as a scientist into the classroom. Ms. Hagen’s students pursue inquiry-based learning through hands-on labs. Students apply their knowledge through making their own choices in labs, ultimately designing unique experiments to perform.

Ms. Hagen’s teaching practice is student-centered and designed to ensure equitable access for students with disabilities and English language learners. Ms. Hagen’s teaching incorporates the principles of Maker Education; all students in Ms. Hagen's Physics courses engage in the creative process of STEAM.
