A Google Classroom was provided for students to receive weekly updates of what was happening in our guided reading sessions and to review strategies for independent practice. Students were able to use the page to have discussions about their books, complete independent assignments, and share with their parents to showcase their learning.
Parents were appreciative of the efforts to keep them involved. Some parents even said that having access to the Google Classroom allowed them to help their children and understand what they were doing in class.
Students said that the page helped them to communicate with their peers and made them excited to have discussions. Importantly, students also noted that they reviewed the page to better understand the strategies they were practicing.
Overall parent engagement motivated the students to grow as readers and implement the strategies on a regular basis!
