We believe every student should experience mathematics learning and teaching that builds a strong foundation for deep mathematical understanding that inspires and empowers learners. We know mathematics instruction consistent with the ambitious and equitable teaching practices positively impacts students’ mathematical understanding, achievement, and identity development. We seek to actively engage students and teachers alike, as capable mathematical doers, knowers, and sense makers drawing upon their knowledge bases and existing competencies to support learning.

In response to post-pandemic declines in mathematics achievement, many states have passed or are considering mathematics-focused legislation similar to that which is in place for early literacy. With an interest in "evidenced-based" teaching and learning, these policies influence everything from instructional materials design and selection to strategies for early intervention, and from preservice teacher preparation to teacher professional development.
