Cheryl grew up in Connecticut and moved to Raleigh during high school. She attended Millbrook High with Lisa Tunstall!! Afterwards, she attended East Carolina University and immediately began her teaching career at Lead Mine Elementary when it opened on 1990. After spending 7 years there, Cheryl joined Magellan in 1997, the year the school opened. Cheryl has taught only math during most of her years at MCS.
Cheryl and her husband, Todd, have two daughters, one cat, and one grand-cat! Megan (26) lives in Raleigh and works at a law firm. Emma (22) is a recent graduate of ECU and majored in dance performance. Megan is getting married this November!
Cheryl loves all things Disney and loves to go to the beach! Cheryl enjoys singing, reading, cooking, and photography. Megan got engaged in August, so the year ahead is going to be very exciting for Cheryl and the whole family!
Lisa was born an army brat, but moved to Raleigh when she was very young and grew up a "Raleigh girl" through and through! She comes from a huge (and most of the time very loud), family whom she loves very much! Lisa graduated from Meredith College in 1993, and has been teaching in Wake County ever since. She came to Magellan Charter School in 2007 to help begin the third grade program, and has loved being a Mariner as a third grade teacher, and now a fourth grade teacher!
Lisa and her husband, Daryl, have two awesome adult children who live close by, which makes their mom very happy! Rachel (26) is a ninth grade English teacher at Wake Forest High School, and Drew (24) works in the technical HVAC industry.
Lisa loves reading, spending time and laughing with family and friends, exploring the NC mountains, the beautiful beach, and all things in between! She loves watching college sports, and is loyal to her favorite NCSU. Go Pack! Lisa also loves her super- cool, orange tabby cat, Oliver! She just welcomed a new kitty, Ruby Louise.
Sara was born and bred in Raleigh. She is the youngest in her family - but doesn't act like a baby - even if her older sister says she does. :) She received her undergraduate degree from Meredith College and attended Auburn University for her masters. Sara began her teaching career in Roxboro, NC, teaching 1st and 2nd grade for 7 years. After taking a ten year break to be home with her children, she returned part time to teach 3rd grade math/science and then moved into full time in 4th grade science in 2013.
Sara and her husband, Rick, have two children and a yellow lab (Lexi) and a rescue (Hobie). Their daughter, Raynor, is a graduate of Meredith college double majoring in international studies and religious and ethical studies. She loves reading and traveling. Their son, Connor, is a recent graduate from Sewanee - University of the South in Tennessee. Connor is an avid soccer player and is freshly "retired" from playing at the collegiate level.
Sara loves the beach, running, walking Lexi and Hobie, entertaining family and friends and a good nap!
Tricia grew up in upstate NY and taught middle school there before moving to Raleigh in 2001. She taught 5th and 1st grades at Lynn Road Elementary for ten years. From 2010-2018 she stayed home with her children and watched children from her home. She started teaching at Magellan in 2018 as a part time 3rd and 4th grade math teacher and this is her fourth year as one of the ELA and Social Studies teachers.
Tricia and her husband, Chris, live in Raleigh with their three children, five chickens. and two puppies. Hunter is their oldest son and is a freshman at UNC-Wilmington. Austin is a freshman at Sanderson, and Stella is a sixth grader at Magellan.
Tricia loves running, walks and hikes with her family, reading, playing with her chickens and dogs, watching baseball and riding roller coasters.
Julie Robertson has been teaching far longer than she likes to admit! She had a full career in the Wake County Public Schools as a special education teacher and reading intervention specialist. She "retired" from WCPSS three years ago and was delighted to begin teaching part-time at Magellan. Julie is fascinated with words and has been a book-lover since her mom taught her to read at age 4. Some of her favorite authors are (in no particular order) Jane Austen, Kate Atkinson and JK Rowling. Julie is married to Daniel Day, a phenomenal guitarist and guitar teacher, and is mom to John, a student at Appalachian State University.
Kara has lived in Raleigh since 1991. She graduated from Meredith College with Elementary Education and Math degrees. She began her career at Lynn Road Elementary where she worked for 9 years as a 2nd grade teacher, math coach, and math intervention teacher. She stayed home with her three children for the next 8 years. She began teaching at Magellan in 2021 as a part-time math intervention teacher.
Kara and her husband, Christopher, live in Raleigh with their three children -- an 9th grader, a 7th grader, and a 3rd grader.
Kara loves spending time with family and friends, relaxing at the beach, hiking in the mountains, and cheering on the NCSU Wolfpack!
Katy grew up in Pennsylvania and has lived in North Carolina since 2011. She graduated from the University of Delaware where she majored in Consumer Economics and from Virginia Commonwealth University where she earned her Master’s in Education in Counselor Education focusing on School Counseling.
She began her professional life working in the fields of human resources and finance but changed career paths toward School Counseling to seek more professional fulfillment. After staying home to raise her children for eight years, she began working as School Counselor at Rolesville Elementary in 2020! This is Katy’s fourth year working as a School Counselor and second year at Magellan as she joined the staff in March, 2023. She works with grades 3-5 four days per week.
Katy and her husband Chad live in Wake Forest with their three children who are in 8th, 6th and 1st grades. Katy enjoys spending time with her family and friends, supporting her kids in the extracurricular activities they love, the beach, and traveling.
