Our School Ministry
At Maerdy Primary School, we believe that every child should have a voice and the chance to share their ideas. Our School Ministry helps make sure that everyone feels listened to, valued and included.
Our Ministry is made up of children from across the school who are chosen to represent their peers. They listen to their friends’ ideas, bring them to meetings and work together to think of ways we can make our school even better.
Being part of the Ministry helps us learn about democracy, including how voting works, how to make fair decisions and why it is important to listen to other people’s views.
Our school values of Resilience, Respect and Trust are at the heart of everything our Ministry does. We learn to keep trying, respect each other’s ideas and trust one another to make positive choices.
Most importantly, our Ministry shows us that our voices matter. By sharing ideas and working together, we can all help make Maerdy Primary a happy, caring and welcoming place where everyone can flourish.
Ministry Election
During the second week of the Autumn Term, our Year 6 pupils took part in our exciting First Minister and Deputy Minister elections.
Pupils who wished to stand for election wrote and delivered speeches to the rest of the school, explaining why they would be a great choice for the role. Each candidate spoke confidently about our school, our values and how they would represent the voices and ideas of their fellow pupils.
We were incredibly proud of everyone who put themselves forward. The speeches showed great confidence, enthusiasm and commitment. Well done to all of our candidates!
Following the speeches, pupils across the school had the opportunity to cast their votes and have their say in who should represent them.
We are delighted to announce our elected pupil representatives for this academic year:
First Minister: Esmae Rogers
Deputy Ministers: Millie Roberts and Marnie Earland
Congratulations to our new First Minister and Deputy Ministers! We look forward to seeing them work with pupils and staff throughout the year to make sure every pupil’s voice is heard.
