Hello everyone!
Welcome to the Maerdy Primary Pupil Website. At our school Miss Gregory wants us to have us much influence as possible. So what exactly do we mean by 'Pupil Influence'? In our school it is about making sure that the views, wishes and experiences of our children are heard.
We ensure that our school is an inclusve place.
So why is it important for pupils to influence school life?
'Every child has the right to express their views, feelings and wishes in all matters affecting them, and to have their views considered and taken seriously.'
Article 12, The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.
So how does this work in Maerdy Primary?
The Maerdy Ministry
This is our version of a school council. One or two representatives from our Pupil Voice Teams meet up as a group to discuss important issues. This group is led by a First Minsiter and Deputy Minister. Click on our Ministry page for more information.
Pupil Voice Teams
In the school we have lots of different Pupil Voice Teams. These are led my a teacher and the groups meet regularly to discuss important information. Each Pupil Voice team comes up with an action plan for the year and it is the team's job to make sure the actions are met. We have the following teams:
Digital, Welsh, International, Curriculm, Environment, Health & Wellbeing, Sport and Community.
Learning Leaders!
We know that nobody is good at everything but everbody is good at something. That's why in every class from Year 3 up we have Learning Leaders. These are 'experts' who help others in class when they are in need. We don't always want to rely on our teachers so this works to help each other out and makes us more independent.
Suggestion Box
A box which pupils can put written in suggestions on improving the school in any way. The box is monitored by the Ministry and suggestions given to teachers.
Questionnaires
Teachers send out questionnaires to classes by Google Forms. This lets our teachers know our opinions about different things.
Student Portfolios
These are used by pupils in Years 5 and 6. Pupils use google sites (just like this one) to share and celebrate work that they are proud of and to show the progress they have made.
Missions
Missions are tasks where we have choice over the activites we do. We can offer suggestions about the work that we do and how we go about doing it. In missions it is important that we rely on a teacher as little as possible.
Tutorials
Everyone needs a little help with their work sometimes. What better way than to learn from our friends! Our tuorials are on this website for English and Maths. Check out the link below:
