In Conversation with Ms Geetha Bhat, Founder of Center for Revival of Indigenous Arts, Bengaluru. The podcast begins with us getting to know how Ms Bhat fell in love with Chittara at first sight and how her journey began thereon. She also speaks of the socio-cultural aspects of Deevaru Community.
The group’s theme waswas Animal-based Folk Social Customs. The sub-theme I chose was Recreation and the topic was Seval Sandai (Cock Fighting).The blog became a ground for me to apply theories/concepts such as historical-geographical method, synchronic system and Kitayama’s Cultural Psychology.
I collected and archived numerology pamphlets of different tribal and folk art forms based on animals across India. Mapped Animals with Folk elements and the deities they represent along with collecting different memories of folktale visitors have had.
Ragi Kana provided me with the understanding of how to bridge the gap between theory and praxis. Based on my observation there, I realised the intricate relationship between farming and folklore. I focussed on how proverbs teach farming techniques for the blog entry.
