IB learners strive to be caring members of the community who demonstrate a personal commitment to service, and act to make a positive difference to the lives of others and to the environment. The MYP aims to help students develop their personal understanding, their emerging sense of self and their developmentally appropriate responsibility in their community.
Service learning is a component of the curriculum at Madison Meadows. All grade levels will take part in service learning with the idea that students will become participants in their communities (both here and on the global scale) in an effort to have exposure to this idea prior to their 8th grade Community Project. Students will be provided opportunities to participate in service learning here on campus with a focus being placed on reflection. Students will develop skills in direct action, research, and advocacy. These opportunities to participate in service learning will be communicated through their general education classes, on grade level websites and through a variety of other communication platforms. If students are interested in participating in/reflecting on action/advocacy that they take part in outside of the classroom/school, please feel free to reach out to your student’s teacher.
Below are some examples of Service Learning from 2021-2022 school year.
