Below you will find a table with the IB Rubric scores listed with a descriptor and a traditional percentage you will see in PowerSchool. There are 2 categories- formative and summative. Formatives are practice assignments and worth 30% of the grade. Summatives are the end of the chapter or unit assessments and worth 70% of the grade. Each teacher will share their reassessment policy with parents and students as needed. Grades will be posted weekly on PowerSchool. Student-led conferences will be offered in October.
70% of a student's grade comes from Summative Assessments (tests, projects, labs, etc.... "big picture" work)
30% of a student's grade comes from Formative Assessments (classwork, participation, homework.... "practice" work)
Late work can be accepted until the day of the reassessment for that unit (for students who are reassessing). Teachers will set and clearly communicate a date (check the Weekly Update) that reassessments should be completed by for each summative.
Students must reassess in order to turn in missing formatives for credit.
After that reassessment date has passed, formatives can still be turned in for half credit until the end of the quarter.
Formatives are not eligible for reassessment.
A teacher leads students through a one-week unit on a topic during the first week of school (August 9th-12). Students complete small, daily formative assignments throughout that unit. Those formatives are due the date of the assessment, for example, Monday, August 15th. All formatives for that unit (daily assignments given the previous week) are due that day of the summative. They may be put in the gradebook and marked as missing if they are not complete.
The teacher returns the graded summative on Wednesday, August 17th. The summative grades will appear in Powerschool, and students will have one week (until Wednesday, August 24th) to turn in missing formatives and schedule a reassessment if they would like to improve their grade.
After the reassessment and late work deadline has passed (Wednesday, August 24th in this example), students can no longer reassess and missing formatives will only be accepted for 1/2 credit. Late formatives can be turned in for 1/2 credit until the end of the quarter.
If a student has extenuating circumstances (i.e., a prolonged absence due to illness or other excused factors), parents and student should communicate with the teachers to determine dates for late work and assessment.
