Cyanobacteria in Lake Mendota

Research Aims

For my Advanced Science Research Program, I will be working primarily in the Limnology Department as well as a bit in the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department of the University of Madison-Wisconsin. I worked with Paul Block (a Civil and Environmental Engineering Professor), Max Beal (a graduate student).

The goal of the lab is to take samples in 35 different grids within the lake and use this plus previous data collected from past years in an attempt to determine where cyanobacteria (also known as blue green algae) blooms will occur and when, in attempt to create a model using the samples and satellite data.

My goal of this lab is to help out with the sampling, online data analysis, and any other tasks. I was also able to learn about how the limnology research facilities work as well as the Civil and Environmental Engineering department function.
