Art Club

The Discovery Middle School Art Club provides artistic opportunities beyond the walls of the classroom.

The club is involved in areas such as general art production, art contests, community service projects, and school beautification. All DMS students are welcome to join, even if they do not take art electives. There is a one-time Art Club fee of $10 which pays for art supplies used during meetings. The Art Club meetings are held in the DMS art studio (room 517) after school twice a month.

During a meeting, members are given a choice of free draw or participating in the current art project. Students take turns bring snacks and organize their own holiday parties. Members experience a variety of art media such as paper mache, acrylic paint, water color, pastels, sculpture, plaster, clay, etc. Some activities and projects are seasonal, such as pumpkin decorating and designing holiday cards. The club participates in Madison's Christmas Card Lane and other local art contests. As a service project this year, our club members adopted a senior citizen through the organization, Santa for a Senior.

Membership requirements:

  • Must have an interest in art.
  • Must be willing to use hands and mind to create art during meetings.
  • Must not waste art materials and use them for intended purposes only.
  • Must demonstrate safe art studio behavior i.e. no horse play, goofing around, etc.
  • Must be respectful to others and maintain a positive social atmosphere.
  • Must sign Art Club contract and pay $10 fee.
