May Campus Connections

May, oh May!

I don't know about all of you, but seems like April just flew by like a flock of goldfinches in the gardens!  So much has been happening on campus, too much for this little ol' newsletter, and there is so much to look forward to in MAY!  Better keep a close eye on those school emails and weekly class newsletters, or you just might miss out on some very important events and happenings! Trying to keep this issue short and sweet, so sit back and enjoy perusing all the fun action:

Our First Annual Batter Breakfast was a smashing success! April 20th, 2024!

A huge Thank you to Joshua DeLisle and Jay Fant who traveled all the way down from Michigan to run the kitchen 》 the food was fantastic!  And thank you to all the families who donated the ingredients, with a special shout out to Chris Maness and Natalie Bates for the fast chicken egg run!

All the efforts here helped us get this super important fund established 》》 between tickets and syrup sales we raised just over $500 after expenses to get us started.

*This new fund will serve to support keeping a child with their class in order to complete their school year, should a family unexpectedly fall on hard times.* ~ Ms. Debbie

Woodson Branch Annual Plant Sale!

What are you up to this weekend?  How about coming out to campus to peruse a wide selection of veggies, herbs, flowers, and perennials?  WBNS students and our Agriculture teachers have been busy for months, preparing for this important annual fundraiser!  We hope to see you there on Saturday, or, if you can't make it, we will also have a sale on the following Saturday, 5/11.

In addition to healthy plants for a great cause, you can also come for BBQ!  One of our awesome parents, Mr. Travis, will be on campus Friday night, smoking delicious BBQ for sale at the fundraiser!  Vegetarians can have lunch on campus, too, with a tempeh option!  You must order in advance here.

Aaaaand as if that wasn't exciting enough, it just so happens that we are also offering a Cob Oven Building class on campus the same day!  From 10-4, participants will learn through doing... building a cob oven for our outdoor kitchen!  This two-day class is part of our Parent Workshop series.  We still have space!  Register here.

Check out what we've been up to in "Specials" & AfterSchool this month!

This Month's Featured Field Trips :

Fourth Grade to the Titatic Museum in Gatlinburg!

Ms. Yena's Fourth Grade Class visited the Titanic Museum in Gatlinburg, TN.   This is a part of the 4th Grade Historical Fiction unit!  After reading their choice of "I Survived" books, they spent weeks creating short stories based on the time period from their books.  At the end of this unit, they got to spend a day at the museum, learning from real artifacts of the time and place.  Each student received a boarding pass at the beginning of the field trip, depicting a real person who was on the Titanic so many years ago.  At the end of the tour, they learned if they survived.  Thankfully, every 4th Grader was able to say, "I survived"!
