Feliz Cumpleaños

A fun, birthday song with a little Spanish and students playing the Cumbia rhythm (from Columbia) on percussion instruments.

Drum Circle

Some studnets volunteered to play a collection of drum rhythms and sounds for you that we learned this year in music class. The rhythms include Beledi from north Africa & the Middle East, Cumbia from Columbia, and many other fun drum sounds.

There is More Love Somewhere

This song is an African American spiritual in honor of Black History Month. It talks about FINDING love, hope, peace and joy when you don't have them.

I've Got Peace Like a River

Another spiritual in honor of Black History Month, this song talks about HAVING peace, love and joy.

Give Light

In honor of Black History Month and Women's history month, Give Light is a song inspired by the words of Ella Baker. Our version of the song was taken from the musical group of Kim & Reggie Harris & Magpie, and you can hear their version of this song HERE. The song talks about GIVING light, love and peace to others.

I Lift My Voice

This song is in honor of Women's History Month. Written by Andrea Ramsey, a female composer from Colorado, this song is from the Justice Choir Songbook. The song can also be found in the Rise Up and Sing songbook located HERE.

RESPECT

Our final song honors both Black History Month and Women's History Month. By the time she turned 30, Aretha Franklin was known as "The Queen of Soul", and in 1987, she became the first woman inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Aretha Franklin died on August 16, 2018. Her rendition of the song RESPECT by Otis Redding became an anthem for social change.
