A Peek at our Week (February 3-7, 2020)
Phonics
This week we continued our learning on the digraphs /sh/, /th/, /ch/. We practiced sorting the sound, and finding the sounds in poems.
Math
We continued to work on shapes this week. We worked on sorting and graphing shapes by each of their unique traits. Shapes we are focusing on are circles, squares, trapezoids, rhombuses, triangles, and hexagons.
Shared Reading
For shared reading this week we read Crown: An Ode to the Fresh Cut. We made predictions about what we thought the text was going to be about. We worked on picking out and reading sight words from the text that we already know.
Writing
We are continuing our unit on informational writing and writing about things we know. This week we wrote stories with a beginning, middle and end.
Family FYI
With Valentine’s Day approaching, we have been doing some brainstorming about the best way to be able to use this day to celebrate kindness and friendship while being equitable to all of our scholars. We have come up with an idea for that day that will give our students an opportunity to create something beautiful for each of their classmates. Instead of having your child address valentines individually for classmates, we would ask that you send them to school with blank valentines to address here at school. We will be sure there are enough for all students and hope to also use this opportunity to team up students with one another to combine their creative minds! Please also feel free to send any trinkets or smaller items if you were already planning to do so, but please no candy! If a child brings candy to school they will be asked to turn it into the wellness center to hold onto until the end of the day.

This week we celebrated Black Lives Matter, Read Your Heart Out and Black History. The joy of seeing our community coming out to read and be a part of our commUNITY spread throughout the halls. As we work toward building an anti-racist school we are reflecting and adjusting our curriculum to focus on diversity and social justice. Ask you students what books they read this week!

Enrollment Information for Families with
Students New to MMSD 4K or 5K
Important dates
- February 24, 2020: online enrollment begins at mmsd.org/enroll
- March 2, 2020: elementary schools open to complete enrollment process
- August 4, 2020: Free or reduced price lunch application available, fees payable online
- August enrollment week: fees payable online or at schools by cash or check.
February 24, 2020 - Online enrollment begins
Families can complete the application online starting February 24. At the end of the application, families are prompted to print and return a verification page; each student will have a verification page.
March 2, 2020, 2:00 – 6:00 PM: Families of new four-year-old kindergarten (4K) and new five-year-old kindergarten students to MMSD complete the enrollment for 4K and KG at all Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD) elementary schools except Lincoln, Randall and Marquette; these families should register at their partnering or paired schools of Franklin, Midvale, and Lapham, respectively. Families without internet access will be able to complete all steps at the Elementary schools, with staff help on March 2nd.
Bring the following documents to school:
- Verification page for each student -- printed from online enrollment.
- Proof of age (birth certificate or medical record).
- Immunization records (IR) -- provide IR if we cannot use the Wisconsin Immunization Registry [WIR] to retrieve your child’s IR.
- Verification of Parent/Guardian Identity and relationship -- official photo identification (driver’s license, passport or government issued ID) and the student’s birth certificate or court documentation providing proof of parent/guardian relationship. If you are unable to provide verification, please contact the MMSD Enrollment Office at 608-663-4957 or enrollment@madison.k12.wi.us
- Proof of address (lease, mortgage, or utility bill).
**Children are welcome to accompany parents, but they are not required to attend enrollment.
Mark your calendar for August
In August, parents will need to complete the Free and Reduced-Price Lunch application and pay fees, if applicable. Families who have completed the enrollment application prior to August, but have not provided proof of birth and/or address, must provide proof at this time.

Additional Information
4-year-old children:
- Children who are four years old on or before September 1, 2020, and live in the MMSD are eligible to participate in the 4K program; however, 4-year-olds are not required to attend 4K.
- 4K Enrollment Day on March 2nd is for families who have a child who is new to MMSD..
- Children currently receiving early childhood special education services with MMSD that are turning 4 on or before September 1, 2020 and attending 4K next year also need to enroll starting March 2.
- The 4K program is a half-day program held at several MMSD elementary schools (Tuesday-Friday) and participating Early Care and Education (ECE) centers throughout Madison. The 4K program is offered free of charge.* (*There is a $40 consumable materials fee.) The fee will be collected in August.

5-year-old children:
- Children must be five years old on or before September 1, 2020, and live in the MMSD attendance area to enroll in Kindergarten. Kindergarten enrollment on March 2nd is for families with a child that is not currently enrolled in MMSD. Parents of children currently attending 4K and PK in an MMSD school or Early Care and Education Center (ECE) do not need to enroll this spring, but must enroll during August enrollment days. A Peek at our Week (January 6-10, 2020)
Math
Our work this week has been all about comparing lengths. Students have been practicing comparing lengths that are shorter than, the same as, and longer than.
Literacy
In phonics, we learned the sounds for letters "Uu,” “Qq” and “Xx". We say (letter name, key word, letter sound) U, umbrella, /u/; Q, quail, /q/; X, fox, /x/. Your child has been bringing home baggies of pictures each week to help them practice letter names and sounds. You may also have seen baggies of pictures that have pairs that rhyme. Feel free to practice or do a memory game!
Writing
We are starting working on opinion writing. Students will write "something they like, because" until the end of the quarter. We are working on students talking to one another to help them add to their ideas.
SEL (Social Emotional Learning)
We also wanted to let you know about our social emotional learning. We use the Zones of Regulation at Allis. Information about this curriculum can be found here. Using these tools allows our scholars to learn how to recognize their emotions and the emotions of others. It also teaches them how to sort problems into small, medium and large categories and how to access people to help them with each size of problem.
Kindergarten is all about learning how to be a member of a large school community. Conflict will arise. Learning how to manage the conflict and emotions that come with them is a large part of our day. Lately, we are seeing more and more of our scholars forget to use their words and instead revert to physicality to solve a conflict.
We are re-teaching Zones of Regulation. We are teaching calming strategies. We are re-inforcing who the trusted adults are in our community. We are leaning into our restorative justice practices.
Each time we have an incident of physicality a classroom, the student is asked to move to a safe place inside the classroom or just outside of it and complete a "Fix-It Plan." This tool allows us to work on teaching in a way that will lower the number of incidents of these kind in the future. We will send home a copy of our classroom Fix-It Plan for you to see, and to ask your child about at home.
We also use the statement "I can keep my body from hurting anyone else's body." Ask your child what strategies they have for calming their body and keeping it from hurting any other friends in our class.

A Peek at our Week (December 2-6, 2019)
Math
This week have focused more on addition and equations. Students are practicing adding numbers to five in a new game called Fives Up. We are also focusing on identifying numbers and proper number placement on a number line.
Literacy
This week we read the book "Who Eats Leaves?" It was fun discovering that we ourselves eat leaves and writing about the different leaves we eat. We used the book to practice pointing to the words and reading at a steady rate.
In phonics, we learned the sounds for three letters "Dd", "Ll" and “”Ff. We say (letter name, key word, letter sound) D, Dog /d/, F, Flamingo /f/, L, Lion, /l/. We highlighted the letters D, F and L in this week's poem “An Afternoon Swim”. We also used our poem to discover our mystery word “and”.
Writing
We are continuing with working on informational writing. Students will continue to write "something they know about" until winter break.
SEL (Social Emotional Learning)
This week focused on using our calm down techniques of self talk, deep breathes and using our words when we feel upset or disappointed.

A Peek at our Week (November 18-22, 2019)
Math
This week have focused more on addition and equations. Students are practicing adding numbers to ten and are learning about doubles in a new game called Bicycle Race. We are also focusing on how to write numbers.
Literacy
This week we read the book "Who Lives in the Sea?" We discussed how to use the pictures to figure out an unknown word and identified the main topic. We also practiced reading two of our high frequency words, "in" and "the".
In phonics, we learned the sounds for the letters "Gg" and "Ii". We say (letter name, key word, letter sound) G, goose, /g/, I, iguana, /i/(we are teaching the short vowel sound at the beginning of iguana right now, we'll teach the long vowel (like the beginning of ice cream later this year). We are also working on listening for how many syllables are in words and matching pictures that rhyme.
Writing
This week we have been working on informational writing. Students have been writing "something they know about". Students have been writing about what they know about Kindergarten and practicing making spaces between their words.
SEL (Social Emotional Learning)
This week we talked about Being Who We Are! We read a wonderful book by Todd Parr. We talked about ways we are the same and different, and how our differences are what makes life wonderfully interesting!

A Peek at our Week (November 11-15, 2019)
Math
This week we worked on addition and subtraction with 2 books, Butterfly Countdown and Munch, Crunch, What a Lunch! We had fun practicing adding and subtracting with 2 new games, The Bowl Game: add one and The Bowl Game:Subtract One. We are also working on writing equations after listening to story problems.
Literacy
We're using a poem, "Walking in The Woods" this week to explore the ideas around retelling stories and reading fluently to help comprehension. Students also looked at the high frequency word "he".
In phonics, we learned the sounds for the letters "v" and "s". We say (letter name, key word, letter sound) v,vulture, vvvvvvvvvv, s, snake, ssssss. We sorted pictures by "v" and "s" sounds and highlighted these letters in our poem "Victor the Sleepy Vulture".
Handwriting
This week we practiced writing the letters “v” and ”s”.
SEL (Social Emotional Learning)
We talked about how to identify our own feelings and what we can do to calm down if we feel frustrated, worried, or angry. We discussed the calming techniques of using our self talk, naming our feelings and taking deep breaths.

A Peek at our Week (November 4-8, 2019)
Math
This week we explored counting by 2's using the number of wheels on a bicycle to help us. We created a chart and figured out how many wheels 18 bikes have. We also began exploring the concept of doubles (1+1, 2+2, 3+3, etc.)
Literacy
We're using a song, "Riding In My Car" this week to explore the ideas around retelling stories and reading fluently to help comprehension. Students also looked at the high frequency word "in".
In phonics, we learned the sounds for the letters "m" and "r". We say (letter name, key word, letter sound) m, mountain, mmmmmm and r, rabbit, rrrrrr. We sorted pictures by "m" and "r" sounds and searched for these letters in our poem "Mouse and Rabbit Share a Snack"
Handwriting
This week we completed our practice of uppercase letters. Students practiced writing letters, Y, Z, and A. We will continue to practice uppercase letters as we begin practicing lowercase letters.
SEL (Social Emotional Learning)
This week we discussed in greater depth how to handle being angry and that people have different feelings about the same things.

A Peek at our Week (October 21-October 24, 2019)
Math
This week we worked on counting objects one by one while playing our new math games called “Which Bug Will Win” and “Beat You to Ten.
Literacy
We're reading the book "Big Hair Don’t Care". Students discussed if the words match the pictures and practiced predicting the rhyming words in the text.
This week students practiced identifying letter shapes and sounds for the letters "H" and "P". as well as "A" and "T" We circled the letters ”H” and “P” in our poems.
Handwriting
In our handwriting curriculum we practiced capital letters V, W, Y. Z in addition to T, I, J D, P, B, R, F, E, M, N,L,H,K,U. Students are writing these letters on paper, drawing them in sand, writing on whiteboards, and tracing using gel bags.
SEL (Social Emotional Learning)
In our Second Step curriculum we learned how we can use self talk to help us stay focused and we worked on naming our own feelings.

A Peek at our Week (October 14-October 18, 2019)
Math
This week we learned a about tally marks using craft sticks. We also learned a new game called "Which bug will win?"
Literacy
We're reading the book "Animal Adventures". Students discussed if the title matches the story and practiced pointing to each word in the text.
We also launched the phonics curriculum that we're piloting this year! This week students looked at their names, sorted words and pictures, practiced looking at simple books in their book boxes, and began learning how to use paper that is specific to handwriting. So far they are loving it!

A Peek at our Week (October 7-October 11, 2019)
Math
This week we learned a new game to help us practice comparing quantities. We also began working on building 10. We do this using a 10 frame and cubes as well as a number rack (also known as an abacus or rekenrek). We do these activities to help students practice "5 and some more". For example, students learn that 7 is 5 and 2 more. Knowing this will help students as they learn addition and subtraction facts.
Literacy
We read the book "Little Bears" this week. Students practiced noticing the difference between words and letters, asking questions about the text, and making predictions.

A Peek at our Week (September 30-October 4, 2019)
Math
This week we continued our work with patterns through motion, sound and materials. We used our hands, feet, voices and materials to create, copy and extend simple patterns.
Literacy
We read the book "My Big Brother" this week. We used the pictures to help answer questions about the text. We practiced reading at a steady rate as well as sight words (I, to, my, and the). We also wrote about the text.
Handwriting
In our handwriting curriculum we practiced capital letters L,H,K,U in addition to D, P, B, R, F, E, M, N. Students are writing these letters on paper, drawing them in sand, writing on whiteboards, and tracing using gel bags.

A Peek at our Week (September 16-20, 2019)
Math
This week we continued our work with 5 frames, and began looking at and comparing 10 frames. Students have also begun to practice and learn about writing numbers 1-5.
Literacy
This week we read the book "Things I Like" by Anthony Browne. Students worked on making connections to the text by thinking of things they like and comparing these ideas with those of the main character. We also began looking at uppercase and lowercase letters. We finished off our week by talking, drawing and writing about the things they like and why.
We also began our handwriting curriculum beginning with capital letters, F, E, M, N. Students learned about starting their pencil at the top of the letter. We have also been practicing writing our names using lowercase letters after their first capital letter, we are progressing toward writing our last names too.
SEL (Social Emotional Learning)
This week our classroom family started learning what it means to have mutual respect. Students discussed what Mutual Respect IS and IS NOT. We also learned more about a poem we say every day at Allis. I am Somebody by Andreal Davis. Ask your student to recite it to you or to try as much as they can.

Un Vistazo a Nuestra Semana (2 - 6 de diciembre, 2019)
Matemáticas
Esta semana tuvimos como enfoque la formación de ecuaciones y la suma. Los estudiantes practican la suma con números hasta 5 en el juego llamado "Fives Up". También identificamos los números y los ubicamos correctamente en una recta numérica.
Lectoescritura
Esta semana leímos el libro "¿Quién come hojas?" Fue divertido descubrir que nosotros mismos comemos hojas y luego escribir sobre las diferentes hojas que comemos. Usamos el libro para señalar cada palabra al leerla y también de leer a un ritmo constante.

Un Vistazo A Nuestra Semana (18-22 de noviembre, 2019)
Matemática
Esta semana nos concentramos en la adición y ecuaciones. Los estudiantes están practicando agregando números hasta 10 y también están aprendiendo acerca del concepto de dobles por medio de un juego llamado Bicycle Race (Carrera De Bicicleta). Esta semana leímos el libro "Who Lives In The Sea?" (¿Quién Vive En El Mar?). Charlamos acerca de cómo usar los dibujos para descifrar alguna palabra desconocida e identificar el tema principal. También practicamos leyendo dos de nuestras palabras de alta frecuencia: "in" y "the."
En la fonética aprendimos los sonidos de las letras "Gg" e "Ii." Para practicarlos, decimos el nombre de la letra primero, luego una palabra con ella, y finalmente el sonido; por ejemplo: "G, goose, /g/; I, iguana, /i/" (por ahora estamos enseñando el sonido vocal corto al principio de "iguana;" enseñaremos el sonido largo de la vocal más tarde este año). También estamos practicando a descifrar cuantas sílabas hay en las palabras y encontrando dibujos que rimen con esas palabras.
Escritura
Esta semana hemos trabajado en la escritura informativa. Los estudiantes han escrito acerca de algo que saben, como kindergarten y practicando haciendo espacios entre sus palabras al escribir.

Un Vistazo a Nuestra Semana (11-15 de noviembre, 2019)
Matemática
Esta semana trabajamos en sumas y restas con la ayuda de dos libros, "Butterfly Countdown" y "Munch, Crunch, What a Lunch!" Nos divertimos practicando sumas y restas con 2 juegos nuevos, "The Bowl Game: add one" y "The Bowl Game: Subtract One". También estamos trabajando en escribir ecuaciones después de escuchar los problemas analíticos.
Lectoescritura
Estamos usando un poema, "Walking in The Woods" ("Caminando en el bosque") esta semana para explorar las ideas sobre cómo volver a contar historias y leer con fluidez para ayudar a la comprensión. Los estudiantes también observaron la palabra de alta frecuencia "he" (él).
En fonética, aprendimos los sonidos de las letras "v" y "s". Decimos (nombre de la letra, palabra clave, sonido de la letra) v, "vulture", vvvvvvvvvv, s, serpiente, ssssss. Clasificamos las imágenes por los sonidos "v" y "s" y resaltamos estas letras en nuestro poema "Victor the Sleepy Vulture".

Un Vistazo A Nuestra Semana (4-8 de noviembre, 2019)
Matemática
Esta semana exploramos contando de 2 a 2 usando la cantidad de ruedas en una bicicleta. Creamos una tabla numérica y calculamos cuantas ruedas hay en 18 bicicletas. También empezamos a explorar el concepto de dobles (1+1, 2+2, 3+3, etc.)
Lectoescritura
Estamos usando la canción "Riding In My Car" esta semana para recontar historias, leer con fluidez, y lograr más comprensión. Los estudiantes también se familiarizaron con la palabra de alta frecuencia "in."
En la fonética, aprendimos los sonidos de las letras "m" y "r." Por ejemplo, decimos el nombre de la letra, una palabra con ella, y su sonido de esta forma: "m, mountain, mmmmmm" y "r, rabbit, rrrrrr." Organizamos dibujos con sus letras correspondientes "m" y "r." También buscamos estas letras en nuestro poema "Mouse And Rabbit Share A Snack."
Escritura
Esta semana completamos nuestra práctica con las letras mayúsculas. Los estudiantes practicaron escribiendo las letras Y, Z, y A. Seguiremos practicando las letras mayúsculas a medida que también empezamos con las letras minusculas.

Matemáticas
Esta semana aprendimos sobre las marcas de conteo usando palitos de paleta. También aprendimos un nuevo juego llamado "¿Cuál insecto ganará?"
Lectura
Leímos el libro "Aventuras con Animales". Los estudiantes discutieron si el título coincide con la historia y practicaron señalando cada palabra en el texto.
¡Comenzamos un nuevo currículo de fonética este año! Esta semana los estudiantes miraron sus nombres, clasificaron palabras e imágenes, miraron libros sencillos en su propia cajita de libros y usaron por primera vez el papel especialmente para la caligrafía. ¡Les encanta a estas alturas!

Un Vistazo a Nuestra Semana (7 octubre - 11 octubre, 2019)
Matemáticas
Esta semana aprendimos un nuevo juego que nos ayuda a practicar la comparación de cantidades. También comenzamos a estudiar las varias maneras de lograr 10 (1+9, 2+8, etc.). Hacemos esto usando una fila de 10 cubos, así como un estante de números (también conocido como un "ábaco o rekenrek"). Hacemos estas actividades para ayudar a los estudiantes a practicar "5 y algo más". Por ejemplo, los estudiantes aprenden que 7 es lo mismo que 5 y 2 más. Saber esto ayudará a los estudiantes a medida que aprenden factores de suma y resta.
Lectura
Esta semana leímos el libro "Ositos". Los estudiantes estudiaban la diferencia entre palabras y letras. También hicieron preguntas sobre el texto y predijeron lo que iba a pasar luego.

Esta semana estudiamos patrones por medio de movimiento, sonido y materiales. Utilizamos los pies, las manos, voces y materiales para crear, copiar y extender patrones básicos.
Lectoescritura
Esta semana leímos el libro, "Mi Hermano Mayor" ("My Big Brother"). Los alumnos usaban las imágenes para ayudar a contestar a preguntas sobre el texto. Practicamos la lectura a un ritmo constante, así como las palabras de alta frecuencia ("I, to, my y the"). También escribimos sobre el texto.
En caligrafía, practicamos las letras mayúsculas "D, P, B, R, F, E, M, N". Los niños escriben las letras en papel, las dibujan en arena, en pizarras de borrar en seco como también en bolsitas de plástico llenadas de gel.

Un Vistazo a Nuestra Semana (16-20 de septiembre, 2019)
Matemáticas
Esta semana continuamos el uso de cuadrículas con 5 espacios/cajas vacíos ("5 frames") y comenzamos a estudiar y los cuadrículas con 10 espacios, comparándolas con las de 5 espacios. Los alumnos empezaron a aprender cómo escribir los números de 1-5. Esté al pendiente para las hojas de matemáticas llamadas "Home Connections" que se enviarán en sus carpetas. Estas hojas le dan a Ud. una oportunidad de probar algunas de las actividades que hemos practicado en clase.
Lectoescritura
Esta semana leímos el libro "Cosas que me gustan" por Anthony Browne. Los estudiantes trabajaron para hacer conexiones con el texto pensando en cosas que ellos mismos les gustaban y comparando estas ideas con las del personaje principal. También comenzamos a mirar letras mayúsculas y minúsculas. Terminamos nuestra semana hablando, dibujando y escribiendo sobre las cosas que los niños les gustan y por qué.
También comenzamos nuestro currículo de caligrafía, comenzando con letras mayúsculas F, E, M, N. Cuando escriben una letra, los estudiantes aprendieron a comenzar a escribirla en la parte superior de la letra. Los alumnos escribieron sus nombres usando letras minúsculas después de su primera letra mayúscula. Proximamente intentaremos escribir nuestros apellidos.

Esta semana nuestra familia de clase comenzamos a aprender lo que significa el respeto mútuo. Los alumnos hablaron de ejemplos que SÍ demuestran lo que es el respeto mutuo, como también ejemplos que NO lo demuestran. Aprendimos más sobre el poema que recita toda la escuela cada día a Allis llamado "Yo Soy Alguien" por Andreal Davis. Pregúntele a su estudiante a recitar lo que puedan de este poema.

A Peek at our Week (September 23-27, 2019)
Math
This week we continued practicing writing numbers 0-5 using two new work place games: Spill the Beans and Which Numeral Will Win? Look for your child's completed game boards in their backpacks! We also began discussing patterns using pictures and sounds.
Literacy
This week we read the book "What Can You See On A Farm?" to prepare for our field trip and connect our experiences at Schuster's Farm. Students practiced using the pictures to help them figure out some of the words in the book. We also wrote a bit about what we saw and what we did on the farm.
In our handwriting curriculum we practiced capital letters, D, P, B, R, in addition to F, E, M, N. Students are writing these letters on paper, drawing them in sand, writing on whiteboards, and tracing using gel bags.
SEL (Social Emotional Learning)
This week our mutual respect lessons brought conversations about words that can hurt and words that can heal. Students read a story about friends who get in an argument and hurt each other's feelings. We also worked on creating a classroom family road of wellness. This will be added to our first floor hallway. Come check it out!

Math-Last week we introduced the structure of five using five frames. The five frame is a tool we use for combining quantities up to five. Students are learning to recognize the number of empty boxes and dot filled boxes and produce corresponding finger patterns. Students were given five frame mats and able to build quantities ranging to five with cubes. Through repeated use students are able to subitize (being able to quickly and accurately tell the number of items presented without counting ), build cardinality (how many items in a set; the last number in counting sequence), and one to one correspondence.
Literacy-Last week for shared reading we read the book Snack Time. We worked on making connections to the text and writing about our favorite snack. We focused on reading with a fluent voice and using the illustrations to help us figure out what the word is.
SEL (social-emotional learning) Our SEL lessons last week focused on mutual respect and building our classroom communities. We talked about how we communicate, set goals, being kind and how we solve problems. We also read through and discussed the ‘I Am Somebody’ poem.

Coming to school in the first month of school can predict good attendance throughout the school year. Half the students who miss 2-4 days in September go on to miss nearly a month of school.

This week our classroom family took a tour of our school. Having a greater sense of where things are in one's community is comforting.
Some big changes you may notice as families are the new locations of our wellness center, formally known as nurse's office, the Family Resource Center, and some renovated bathrooms and water fountains. We look forward to you checking out our new spaces at our Open House September 24th from 5:30-6:45p.m.

Matemáticas- La semana pasada enseñamos el uso de cuadrículas con 5 espacios/cajas vacíos ("5 frames"). La cuadrícula con 5 espacios demuestra cómo combinar números hasta 5 (p. ej., 1+4, 2+3, 5+0) Los estudiantes están aprendiendo a reconocer la cantidad de cajas vacías y cajas con cubos y producir los patrones de dedos correspondientes. Los estudiantes recibieron cuadrículas con 5 cajas y pudieron construir cantidades hasta cinco con cubos. Mediante el uso repetido, los estudiantes pueden subitizar (decir de forma rápida y precisa el número de objetos sin tener que contarlos), demostrar números cardinales (el primer número en la secuencia, la segunda, la última, etc.) y correspondencia uno a uno (contar al mismo momento de tocar el objeto).
Lectoescritura-La semana pasada durante la lectura con toda la clase, leímos el libro "Tiempo de Meriendas" ("Snack Time"). Hicimos conexiones entre el texto y luego escribimos sobre la merienda que más nos gusta. Nos concentramos en leer con fluidez (de corrido) y en utilizar las imágenes para ayudar a descifrar palabras desconocidas.
Aprendizaje Socio-Emocional Las lecciones de Aprendizaje Socio-Emocional de la semana pasada tuvieron como enfoque el respeto mutuo y creando una fuerte comunidad en nuestra clase. Hablamos sobre cómo nos comunicamos y cómo resolver problemas. También nos fijamos la meta de ser amables. Luego leímos y discutimos el poema "Yo Soy Alguien":

Hemos tenido un comienzo super positivo y fuerte al año escolar. Este año comenzamos rutinas más ordenadas de llegada y salida. Espero que haya visto el aumento de personal afuera de la escuela antes y después de las clases, dando la bienvenida y despidiéndose de todos nuestros alumnos. Estamos comprometidos a hacer de Allis una escuela acogedora donde los estudiantes se sientan amados y retados a lograr lo mejor de sí mismos. Por favor, háganos saber cómo lo estamos haciendo. ASISTENCIA - Si la asistencia de un/a estudiante ha sido buena durante el primer mes de clases, predice buena asistencia al transcurso del ciclo escolar. First Days of School Update!
We have had a great start to our school year. Our Kindergartners have been learning about how to get around our building, where their rooms are, who their teachers are, and of course making friends in class. This week our students have experienced art, music, library, P.E. and REACH (social emotional learning in the library).

Hemos tenido un gran comienzo alaño escolar. Nuestros alumnos de Kinder han estado aprendiendo cómo moverse por nuestro edificio, dónde están sus habitaciones, quiénes son sus maestros y, por supuesto, haciendo amigos/amigas en clase. Esta semana nuestros estudiantes han experimentado arte, música, biblioteca, educación física, y REACH (aprendizaje social y emocional en la biblioteca).

Welcome to Kindergarten at Frank Allis!
We are so excited to meet you all! The beginning of the school year is exciting for us teachers too. Several of us have moved classrooms or switched grade levels. We're unpacking boxes, putting up bulletin boards, and writing lesson plans.
Our primary focus is making sure you and your child feel prepared to start the school year.
- Once we have our class lists, we will be scheduling Ready, Set, Go! conferences with each of you. These can be held in a variety of ways: at our School Picnic, at Frank Allis, over the phone, or whatever works for you and your child's teacher.
As always, please feel free to contact us with any questions you have before the school year begins and as we continue through the year.

¡Estamos muy emocionados de conocerlos a todos ustedes! El comienzo del año escolar también es emocionante para nosotras las maestras. Varios de nosotros hemos cambiado de aula o cambiado de nivel de grado. Estamos desempacando cajas, colocando tableros de anuncios y escribiendo planes de lecciones.
Nuestro enfoque principal es el de asegurarnos que Ud y su hijo(a) se sientan preparados/as para el año escolar.
- Cuando cada maestra reciba la lista con los estudiantes en su clase, ella va a programar una conferencia con cada una de las familias. Se puede realizar su conferencia por varios modos: en Frank Allis; por teléfono; o por cualquier otro modo que Ud prefiera.
