Below are a few videos for you to watch. I'm trying to find videos to help explain systematic racism, bias, white privilege, and antiracist practices. I will continue to update these videos as I find more. (Feel free to send me any ones you recommend as well).
Racism is real. This video uses science and evidence to show how racism affects individuals, what makes people racist in the first place, and how to combat it.
This video shows how people experience bias on a regular basis.
A short video to explain systemic racism... although it is much deeper than this one video, this does a good job of introducing what it is.
This video talks about how to be a good ally.
This is a very powerful video that shows a college class talking about the different types of microaggressions there are and how some students have experienced them.
One of the leaders in antiracist education is Dr. Ibram X. Kendi. Jason Reynolds has adapted one of Dr. Kendi's books into a version for Young Adults, and it is by far one of the best books I have read in a very long time (OK, I actually listened to it, twice - and the audiobook is awesome). The book is Stamped: Racism, Antiracism, and You. I highly recommend this book, and because I'm so excited about this book, I've also seen a lot of interviews and conversations with the authors. Those are shared below... you can learn a lot from listening to these conversations even if you haven't read the book. I hope you take a watch and listen...
This conversation is from May 27, 2020 and was the opening session for School Library Journal's Day of Dialog that highlights various authors of books for children and young people, in conversation. The conversation begins about 3 minutes into the video.
From March 2020, the authors talk are interviewed on Build, a live interview show online. This is a really great and informative interview about racism and antiracism.
What message are these kinds of movies sending?
