Students will read authors from different societal and cultural backgrounds that feature young-adult life experiences as well as texts from the classical literary canon. The main focus of the course is to have students move beyond the text to analyze, question, and understand the author's intention surrounding a text or multiple texts.
The English II Honors course focuses on building skills necessary for success in AP, college-level coursework intended to cultivate critical thinking and analysis. Students will be asked to critically read and analyze challenging and sometimes controversial material. Students will demonstrate their understanding of texts and author’s choices through a variety of writing assignments Emphasis will be placed on literary and rhetorical analysis, argument, synthesis, and research.
The AP English Language and Composition course focuses on the development and revision of evidence-based analytic and argumentative writing, the rhetorical analysis of nonfiction texts, and the decisions writers make as they compose and revise. Students evaluate, synthesize, and cite research to support their arguments. Additionally, they read and analyze rhetorical elements and their effects in nonfiction texts—including images as forms of text—from a range of disciplines and historical periods.
