Perception explores both the literal and artificial concepts of the word: the real, accurate observation of physical things; and the falsified perception that can emerge, especially through social media. Using oil paint on canvas, I combined an illustrative and realistic style in the image of large hand icons layered over the portrait of a boy. I intended to convey how our digitised society relies on falsified perceptions that misrepresent, or hide, reality and truth.
