Dear Fourth Grade Parents and Students,
This note is to inform you that the fourth graders will be having the annual science fair from 1:30-2:30 in the gym on Monday, April 20th. We are incorporating the science fair into our unit about energy and inventors. Students are to develop a project that demonstrates some form of a topic about science. Some ideas can include but are not limited to: inventions, robots, magnetism, and energy. Energy could include mechanical, physical, solar, hydroelectric, wind, etc. The students were able to express whether they wanted to work alone or with a partner. ALL PROJECTS MUST BE APPORVED BY MRS. EVELETH BECAUSE THE PROJECT NEEDS TO BE SOMETHING THAT CAN BE PRESENTED SAFELY IN THE GYM.
The students’ task will be:
1. Research a project using the Internet or books to come up with an idea for a project
2. Take pictures of each step of making the project
3. Design a display with pictures of each step of the project and words to describe the steps
4. Have the actual project and a display set up at the fair to teach other students and visitors about the project
I will have some resources at school that the students can use for project ideas. We will discuss these resources in class. Feel free to use other resources as well. If a student comes up with their own idea from books other than mine or from the Internet, an email or printed copy must be seen by me. Some of the research will be done at school and some at home. The actual project and display will need to be completed at home. All projects and displays will need to be COMPLETED BY APRIL 14th and brought to school on the 14th or before the 14th. This will give the students time to practice with their classmates in class on the week of April 14 before our fair on April 20th. The designing of the project and the display CAN BE BROUGHT TO YOUR CLASSROOM when completed. All projects and displays will need to be taken down and home after the fair on Monday, April 20th.
If you have any questions about our science fair, please feel free to contact me by calling the school or emailing me at ceveleth@st-francis.net, or call the school at 753-7977.
Thank you for your cooperation, and the students and I look forward to seeing you at our science fair Monday, April 20th from 1:30 to 2:30 in the gym.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Eveleth, Fourth Grade Science Teacher
