In K-5 PE, we are beginning the year with cooperative games! Students are learning the benefits of teamwork and working together as a part of a team. Situations arise where I love seeing them think about their peers and helping to make others feel included and valued. Some examples of these games are "The Grove is Lava", "Red Fish, Blue Fish", and "Over, Under, Around, and Through". This is one of my favorite units of the year.Â
After this unit, we will turn our focus to a soccer unit. Students will be introduced to dribbling, passing, kicking, moving through space, as well as game principles and strategies. Also this fall, these students will also be working on general gross motor skills, such as skipping, running, hopping, leaping, galluping and more! These will be incorporated into many game like activities, such as relays, tag games, team challenges, and holiday themed games. In addition, fitness principles will be incorporated on a daily basis. We will be doing weekly "fun runs" , CORE work and much more!
Our Middle School students have been working hard in Physical Education! Although I've missed having them a bit up to this point due to their field trip, they have been working hard and having a lot of fun when in PE! We are beginning the year with a back to school cooperative game unit. The emphasis has been on kindness, teamwork, sportsmanship and fun! After this introductory unit, students will be engaging in Ultimate Frisbee, Soccer, and Volleyball. In addition, students will be engaging in regular physical fitness, including running and core strength. The overall goal is to provide a positive, low stress, fun environment for the students. As a result, it is my hope that they will discover a sport they love, whether it is a team sport or individual, such as cross country. I'm looking forward to working with them as we head into the fall season.
