a note to prospective students:

If you are interested in becoming involved in my lab as an Honours or an Independent Study student, I generally seek students who meet the following criteria: primary interest in one of the major areas I study within forensic psychology, strong GPA, self-motivated, solid research skills, knowledge of experimental design, independent thinker, and strong communication skills both in written and verbal form. I don't expect perfection, but rather a willingness to learn and accept feedback and to work together to develop a project. In addition, flexibility is the utmost importance to me, as sometimes life gets in the way and we have to adapt or pivot, and as long as you can do that with me, we are gold.

In general, Honours students looking to apply during next year's intake should come to meet with me some time between October and February in order to have a meet and greet (if I don't already know you) and to discuss interests, ideas, your goals and our potential "fit" as a supervisor and student. I strongly believe that the fit goes both ways, and is an important part of both the student and faculty assessing whether they could work well together!

For Independent Study students, I also expect that students will come and meet with me to discuss availability and potential research options well in advance of the term in which they are hoping to conduct an independent study. Although these IS courses (PSYC 398 and PSYC 498) can take many different forms, I generally work with students a minimum of 4-5 months in advance of the term their IS is assigned to in order to sufficiently set up any background required (i.e., creating a design, materials, submitting ethics, design Qualtrics surveys, etc.).
