What is StoryWalk?

StoryWalk® offers an innovative and interactive way for readers to enjoy a storybook while engaging with the environment. Along a path at MacEwan University, you will travel from one page of a children's book to the next, making your way through captivating illustrations, teachings, and more. Our community will have all-season access to this unique experience, with picture book pages woven through indoor and outdoor campus spaces. Our storybooks will change regularly for self-guided experiences.

Featuring diverse stories with thoughtful ideas and captivating illustrations, StoryWalk® at MacEwan will create a pathway for promoting early learning, exercise and curiosity.

We acknowledge that the land on which we learn, work, play, and live is Treaty 6 Territory. This place is the traditional homeland for many First Nations and Métis peoples and is now home for many Inuit peoples as well. Today we are all part of this treaty land. We are committed to taking the lead of Indigenous peoples to inform our practice in education and rely on their participation, knowledge sharing, lived experiences and critical assessments to help us shape best practices for rich environments for children and families. We are reminded that we are all treaty people and hold responsibilities towards one another.

The StoryWalk® Project was created by Anne Ferguson and developed in collaboration with the Kellogg-Hubbard Library in Montpelier Vermont. Storywalk® is a registered service mark owned by the Kellogg-Hubbard Library.

We are grateful to the City of Edmonton for their support through the Downtown Vibrancy Fund in establishing StoryWalk at MacEwan. Together, we are excited to braid together families, stories, and university experiences in meaningful ways.
