StoryWalk® History

Imagine walking along a path and finding a story. You read a page, walk a bit, and then find the next page. StoryWalk® is a fun adventure that keeps you moving and reading all the way through the story.

StoryWalk® was developed in 2007 by Anne Ferguson in partnership with Kellogg-Hubbard Library in the United States. It has become an internationally known way of storytelling, having been installed in many countries, including the United States, Germany, Canada, England, Bermuda, Russia, Malaysia, Pakistan and South Korea.

Bringing StoryWalk® to a university campus is special. It invites everyone to come together to read and learn in unique ways with each story. It is not just about books; it is about becoming part of a university campus and community, sharing stories, and making friends. StoryWalk® at MacEwan University makes reading a part of the great downtown!

Storytelling forms of yesterday impact storytelling forms of today, and the activity of reading stories aloud and together is long-standing. Its earliest form is oral storytelling, and it has continually evolved since then and remains vital for human communication and connection.
